What to Expect
Worship at Faith Lutheran
- Every church has its own style of worship. We think you’ll enjoy the services at Faith, but as in any church, you should expect it to take a couple of services to become accustomed to our way of praising God and proclaiming what he has done.
- Each week the service outline is printed in the worship folder. In addition, the entire service is projected on the wall to make it easy for you to follow along. All the Scripture readings, hymns, and responsive readings and prayers will be shown there. You are certainly welcome to bring along your own Bible and follow along there if you choose, too. Although the hymns are projected, hymnals are in the pew racks for you to use if you prefer to do so, when following the order of service of singing the hymns.
- Our services focus on readings from the Bible which center on the life of Christ and our current lives as Christians. All sermons, hymns, prayers, music, and singing revolve around the Scripture readings each week.
- Music certainly is an important part of our services. Loud or soft, in monotone or rich harmony, all our praises are music to God as we respond to hearing His Word.
- When pondering God’s love for us and our opportunity to praise and thank him for that love, we recall the words of the Psalm writer: “I rejoiced with those who said to me, ‘Let us go to the house of the LORD.'” (Psalm 122:1)
- The services usually include the following parts in a variety of forms:
We Approach God with Penitence and Praise
- The Invocation – We call on the name of our Savior God as we praise him.
- Admitting sins and Hearing Forgiveness – We acknowledge that we have not always done what God asks. Then we are assured of forgiveness because of what Jesus Christ has done for us.
We Hear God’s Word
- Bible Readings – We hear selections from God’s Old Testament prophets, Jesus’ apostles, and from Jesus himself in the Gospels. The pastor also gives a brief explanation of each reading.
- Sermon – Our pastor offers instruction and encouragement in a Bible-based sermon. We hear how we can expect God’s guidance and grace for dealing with problems, as well as the promise of eternal life in heaven through Jesus.
We Respond to God’s Word
- We respond with a confession of faith, offerings, hymns, and prayers in thanks for the things God has promised to us and for strength to do what he has asked.
We Depart in Peace
- Parting blessing – We hear one last assurance of God’s care.
- Mixed throughout these different parts of our service are hymns and short songs to praise God.
Worship Style
- Our worship uses traditional forms together with modern language and application. The traditional brings us the best from God’s Church throughout the ages, and the contemporary brings God’s promises and will into our daily lives. We know you will enjoy and be edified by both!
- Some parts of the liturgy stay the same each Sunday. This is to make sure that Christ is proclaimed and praised during every service. Some parts of the liturgy change every week. These changes are based on the calendar of the church. This regular schedule of lessons and readings makes sure we cover all the key teachings of the Bible as well as the events of the life of Christ each and every year. Liturgical worship also obligates all involved to take an active role in praising God and proclaiming the Gospel. Through congregational hymns, spoken responses, Bible readings, psalms, and Gospel-rich sermons, fellow Christians join together to remind one another of God’s mercy and grace.
- We also offer a contemporary service called “Refueled” once a month. This service offers worship with a live band and a Biblical message that relates to everyday life experiences.
First Time Visitors
We understand it can be intimidating to come to worship for the first time at a church you’ve never been to before. We’ve provided a little bit of information to help you understand what to expect. When you come through our doors you’ll be in our gathering area. Members of Faith and our guests visit before entering the sanctuary for worship. Here is some guidance based on Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).
Faith is a large church with hundreds of people coming and going each weekend. Our pastors will do their best to greet you after worship, but aren’t always able to get to everyone. We would love to meet you, get to know you a little bit better and find out how we can serve you with God’s Word. Please take the time to fill out the guest register located at the welcome desk when you enter the building. If you are a first time visitor stop by the desk to receive a free coffee mug.
The members of Faith Lutheran have joined together to carry out the Lord’s work here in Fond du Lac and around the world. Guests need not feel obligated to participate in the weekly offering that supports our ministry.
If you have trouble seeing find an usher or greeter who will give you a large print service folder.
If you have trouble hearing and have a hearing aid you can make use of the hearing loop system which is connected to our speaker system.
Kids of all ages are welcome at Faith. We encourage kids and their parents to grow in faith together as they hear God’s word and sing his praise.
- On two Sundays each month the pastor delivers a special children’s message right before the first lesson.
- Speakers in the gathering area allow you to follow along with the service if you need to step out with your child.
- A cry room is also available to meet the needs of parents with small children.
Come as you are. We aren’t worried about what you’re wearing. You’ll find worshipers at Faith wear everything from suits to casual attire.
Feel free to sit wherever you’d like, whether the front or the back. If you need assistance an usher will help you. Seats near the back are reserved for parents with small children.
